
1. Application Conditions
At least 18 years old (same as car/motorcycle)
Hold a valid passport and valid visa (tourist visa is accepted in some areas)
In Thailand, you must have a legal residential address (a proof of address is required).
2. Required Documents
Passport (original copy: information page, visa page, entry stamp)
Proof of Address (choose one)
Immigration Bureau Proof of Residence
Residence certificate issued by the district government
Work Permit
Health Certificate (issued by the clinic, valid for 1-3 days)
Tax Number: Not required
3. Application Process (Land Transport Bureau)
Document review
Response ability test: color recognition, far and near judgment, brake response
Watch safe driving video (about 1 hour)
Written Exam: 50 questions; a score of 45 or higher is required to pass (English-language version available).
Road test: reversing, parking, straight line, turning and other field driving tests
4. Receiving the Driver's License
First issue for 2 years
Upgrade to 5-year before expiration

Foreigners holding an International Driving Permit (IDP) can drive a vehicle in Thailand without needing to apply for a Thai driver’s license.
